URBAN BICYCLE FOOD MINISTRY

Every week we deliver 200+ meals to people affected by homelessness and poverty in the Nashville area.

UBFM has a three-part Mission

To Serve

To Connect

To Sustain

The Urban Bicycle Food Ministry is a non-profit organization-501c3, created to serve people affected by homelessness and poverty. Though we are a Christian based organization, we are inclusive. People of different faiths and backgrounds are encouraged to participate. This organization believes that small concrete acts of kindness are the fundamentals that bring light and love to a community. All it requires is a bicycle, backpack, and a giving spirit.

When we meet with people, we try to create relationships with them. A lot of our neighbors on the streets are often looked over and ignored. They might be given the notion that they are not cared for. When we meet with them, we ask them questions regarding their day, their background, and any specific needs we can meet for them. We ask if they have prayer concerns and if we can pray for or with them. Also, we often ask when and where we can find them on our next ride. Creating these relationships allows them to know they are cared for.

To build relationships. (Connect)

The Urban Bicycle Food Ministry falls into the idea of a “church without walls”. We are a church in the sense of an assembly of people. Our church building is our city. We are an active church. We go to our neighbors on the streets; we meet them where they are with food and essential supplies and remind them that they are loved, cared for, and prayed for regularly.

To meet our neighbors where they are at. (Serve)

The idea of UBFM’s mission is to connect people with people. It is hard to understand a person’s struggle if they are not given the opportunity to talk about it. A person can’t be heard if they are not listened to. UBFM is an outlet for the outsider to hear our neighbors’ stories. Our ultimate goal is to give our volunteers the opportunity to discover their personal and unique gifts to serve people affected by homelessness.

From creating these opportunities, the UBFM movement has spread into other cities such as Des Moines IA, Dubuque IA, Colorado Springs CO, and Chicago IL. If you are interested in creating a UBFM in your city, give us a shout. All it takes is a desire to create love and kindness. We will guide you and answer any questions you might have.

“Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat. What if one said, ‘Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!’? What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs?”

James 2:15-16
